As promised, I’m baaaaakkk with another book review! But first, my outfit of the day:
I don’t usually wear black much this time of year because it doesn’t feel summery to me. However, when pairing it with my favorite shorts and wedges – I love it! Speaking of wedges, ( we were, weren’t we?) I can’t get enough of these from White Mountain. The sole/wedge is, how can I describe it? Rubbery! They truly feel like you are waking on cushions. Also, they aren’t super high so I don’t feel self conscience wearing then with shorts. I picked them up and Macy’s. Go get some!
The Book of Unknown Americans by Cristina Henriquez was recommended by Ginny over at Cothed with Grace. It is the story, or maybe I should say several stories of people who have immigrated to the United States from Latin American countries. The main story of Alma, Arturo and their 15 year old daughter Maribel who has suffered some brain damage in an accident. They arrive in Deleware from Mexico in hopes of a better education for Maribel than they could get in Mexico. The family moves into a run down apartment building that happens to house several other immigrants. Their is one family with a 15 year old son, who thinks Maribel is the most beautiful girl he has ever laid eyes on. This is a story of tragedy, struggle and love.
One thing I love about reading, is how it opens my eyes to things, people and situations that I never had thought much about before. The Book of Unknown Americans certainly did not disappoint. I really enjoyed this book!
Wearing: Black flowy top – JCP; Olive shorts – ON; Neutral wedges, earrings – Macy’s; Necklace – self made.
Words to live by:
Since I’m sharing books this week and books have words, I’d thought I share a little about what the Bible says about words: James 1:19 My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry.
Have a lovely day my friends!
