Words to live by: Proverbs 18: 24 A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. Loneliness is everywhere – many people feel cut off and alienated from others. Being in a crowd just makes people more aware of their isolation. We all need friends who will stick close, listen, care, and offer help when it is needed – in good times and in bad. It is better to have one such friend that dozens of superficial acquaintances. Instead of wishing you could find a true friend, seek to become one. There are people who need your friendship. Ask God to reveal them to you, and then take on the challenge of being a true friend. I have been blogging for almost 2 years and following and reading other blogs for around 6 years. After reading someone’s blog for awhile, if they are the type of writer who shares of themselves, you feel like you get to know them. Like you could actually be friends with them if you only lived closer. I don’t know about you, but I have felt that way with a few of the ladies I have “met” online. When I say “met”, I of course mean read their blogs, follow their Instagram feeds and so on. But in reality, my feelings of friendship are really just in my head.
Well guess what? I had the opportunity to have a real life blogger meet up recently!!! I first came across Amy’s blog Amy’s Creative Pursuits, maybe a year and a half ago. We occasionally commented on one another’s posts and liked each others Instagram photos. But through those communications, I had the feeling that if we lived near each other, we would be friends. Alas though, she lives in Wisconsin and I live in Connecticut.
When my husband and I were planning a little visit to Minnesota to visit some friends and what not (the “what not” will be for a future post!) for the end of July, I started thinking “Hmmmm…Minneapolis is very near Wisconsin….” Here is where the hard part came. I had to step out of my comfort zone, contact Amy and ask her if she would like to meet in person. She gave me such a sweet and enthusiastic response! She suggested we meet at lovely park right in Minneapolis that also had a restaurant. I was so happy that she and her hubby were willing to make the 2 hour drive to meet us.
We planned to meet a noon so we could eat together and then explore the park a bit.
The park had a seafood restaurant in it, which my hubby thought was interesting since we were in the middle of the country – far from the sea. It was the type of restaurant where you order at the counter, then they bring your food out to you.
I went with the Mojito Shrimp with mango salsa. If there is something Mexican around, I’ll sniff it out!
While waiting for our food to come out, I gave Amy a bracelet, which matched the bracelet I was wearing. Just a little token, but I wanted to thank her for driving all that way. We didn’t plan it all, but the bracelet matched what she wore.
After lunch, we decided to go see the waterfall.
I picked up this orange sundress at JCPenney’s in late July. I just love the embroidery. It was perfect for a day of sightseeing. I’m wearing my trusty Ugg wedges which I knew would be comfortable for walking around. Whenever we go somewhere, Steve will look at my footwear and say “Are you wearing sensible shoes?” Which of course I reply “I don’t like sensible shoes. I like cute shoes!” PS. Amy wore cute shoes too!!
It was a bright sunny day and sunglasses were a must!
The park was called Minnehaha Falls. It was right in Minneapolis. Can you believe this gorgeous waterfall is right in the City?
Further down from the falls, kids were cooling off in the water.
Amy and I left the husbands on a bench and wandered down to put out feet in the water.
Isn’t Amy just the cutest? How about those dimples? Say “Hi” to Steve and Todd back on the bench!
Our hubbys were such good sports to come along and let us meet a new friend – who lives halfway across the country! Amy commented that they were good “Instagram Husbands”. If you don’t know that term, check out this video!
Amy is wearing a cute halter style tank in a silky material with black shorts and darling white wedges.
We found this pretty arched walked way. Since I had seen this area online, I wanted to have our picture taken under it.
If you aren’t reading Amy’s Creative Pursuits, you are missing out. She blogs about fashion, crafts, travel and recipes.
I have to tell you what a blessing it was to talk “blogging” with someone who gets it. We had a nice long (although not long enough) discussion on blogs and blogging at our age. My hope and prayer is that we can do this again sometime soon. Hmmmm…Did someone say girls weekend??
Friends, my take away from this experience is that sometimes we are called to step out and do something different. Say hello. Smile at a stranger. Ask someone you don’t know well out to lunch. You never know where your next friend is going to come from. If we all stay in our own lane and never veer off onto an unfamiliar path, there is no telling what joy we will miss out on.
Have a lovely day my friends!
