Words to live by: Hebrews 10:24 Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us think of creative ways to show and encourage love and help for others.
As you may (or may not ) know, I love to read! I belong to a really fun book club and this month’s selection was The Good Girl by Mary Kubica.
The Good Girl is a suspenseful thriller that I would put in the same category as Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. I’m not saying that it is of the same caliber, but fairly close. It’s the story of Mia, a twenty something high school art teacher from Chicago. A man of questionable character is hired to kidnap her. The story is told from several perspectives: the investigator, her mother and her kidnapper. There is a paragraph very early from the abductor that grabbed my attention, my heart and my gut.
I’ve been following her for the last few days. I know where she buys her groceries, where she has her dry cleaning done, where she works. I’ve never spoken to her. I wouldn’t recognize the sound of her voice. I don’t know the color of her eyes or what they look like when she’s scared. But I will.
That last line had me hook, line and sinker! It had some terrifying moments and some oddly tender moments. It also has a pretty big surprise at the very end. (Don’t peek!!) I enjoyed Kubica’s writing and the fact that she is very clear of whose perspective you are reading and what the time frame is.
If you are looking for new page turner, I recommend this one!
I’d love to hear in the comments below if you have great reads to share!
Have a lovely day my friends!
