Words to live by: 1 Corinthians 13:4 Love does not boast, it is not proud. Love is an action. Love does. Love is serving, helping, putting others needs before my own.
My hubby and I recently celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary by taking a little trip away. We were invited to spend some time at the lake house of an old family friend. The house is on Lake Carlos is in Alexandria, Minnesota.
Before heading to the lake, we spent a fun day in Minneapolis! Our first stop was at The Mall of America. This was actually my second time there. Steve knew it was on my bucket list to see and he brought me there a few years ago. I don’t have many pics from the mall. I kept walking around hoping to find some type of sing or display with the name, but never found one. I finally found a rather small sign and had to settle for it!
When we arrived the stores weren’t even open so we found a Caribou Coffee shop and enjoyed cappuccino and monkey bread. After that, the stores were open so we shopped around for awhile, then came across a massage store. We decided to get 20 minute massages. It was so nice to after being up since 3am and traveling! After that, we headed over to Minnehaha Park to meet Amy from Amy’s Creative Pursuits and her husband. You can read all about that fun day here.
After our afternoon at the park, we decided to head into downtown Minneapolis. We have several haunts their that we like to visit. We also were meeting our friends, Juli and Joel for dinner. Steve wanted to take me to have a “Jucy Lucy” for dinner. He was introduced to the Jucy Lucy by Joel on an earlier trip. My husband knows that I’m burger girl at heart!
It’s definitely not a fancy place! It’s actually a little hole in the wall place tucked in a neighborhood.
The Jucy Lucy is fairly famous in Minneapolis. It is a hand formed burger with cheese on the inside. Let me be clear hot, molten cheese! You need to wait a few minutes to bite in after it is served. I have to say, it lived up to the hype!
After dinner, we followed Joel and Juli over to a beautiful park to enjoy the walking path around the lake. I have to say, Minneapolis knows how to do parks right! I loved seeing to many people out enjoying the park, walking biking or picnicking on blankets.
After our walk, Juli suggested going to “Izzy’s” for ice cream. “Izzy’s” is a local place that is famous for their homemade ice cream in all kinds of unique flavors. I’m not much of an ice cream girl, but it was a warm night and everyone else was getting some so….when in Rome…I chose salted caramel with an “izzy” of chocolate almond joy. An “izzy” is an extra tiny scoop of another flavor. I have to say, it was really good!
After our treats, we headed over to Juli and Joel’s lovely home. They hosted us for the evening.
Juli knew that we usually make a smoothie out of fruit, spinach or kale and almond milk for breakfast and she made sure she had all that on hand. Is she a doll or what?! She also introduced me to vanilla, whey protein powder. Thanks Juli! I use it every time now! I’ll post my usual recipe next week.
We had such a wonderful first day on our Minnesota getaway!
Have a lovely day my friends!
