I’m so happy to bring you an extra post today. My blogging buddies, The Style Me Bloggers, and I are talking about our Summer reading lists.
One thing you should know about me if we are going to be friends, is that I love to read! I read all year ’round, but there is something special about Summer reading. You can find me many an afternoon out by the pool lost in a book or an ibook on the iPad.
I’ve mentioned before that I belong to a wonderful book club called “Reading Between the Wines” and we are currently readinga mystery called The Dead Key by D.M. Pulley. I had to borrow my daughter’s Kindle to read it since it was not available on ibooks or at Barnes & Noble. I’m enjoying it so far and will have to report back at a later date.
One of the my top 5 books ever read is called ” The Antelope in the Living Room”. I seemed to have loaned it out (and forgotten to whom – yikes!) so I don’t have a picture of it, but here is a link. It is a book about marriage and how it is both a blessing and the hardest thing you will ever endure. Friends, this book is laugh out loud funny!! If you are married, you will find yourself nodding your head in agreement and laughing so hard you will have tears in your eyes! I can’t recommend this book high enough. In the preface of the book, the author talks about how her first book “Sparkly Green Earrings”, netted her several pairs of sparkly green earrings in the mail by fans of the book. When at a meeting with her publisher while writing “The Antelope in the Living Room”, she asked if she could change the name to “Large Louis Vuitton Bag with Matching Wallet” The name was of course shot down.
This summer I plan on reading Melanie Shankle’s latest book, “Nobody’s Cuter Than You”- a memoir about the beauty of friendship.
The next book on my Summer List is called “The Book of Unknown Americans” by Cristina Henriquez. This was book recommended by one of my favorite bloggers, Ginny at Clothed with Grace. This is the story of two families who move to The United States from Latin American countries and their lives, loves and struggles.
And lastly, I want to share with you “Jesus Calling” by Sarah Young. Every morning, I sit down with my coffee and read and pray with this devotional. I look up the verses listed and then try to read them in different translations, then take my notebook and jot down what I have gleaned. I find this so centering for the very start of my day.
Now it’s your turn – What do you have on your Summer reading list?
My friends the Style Me Bloggers have put theirs! Be sure and check them out!
