Words to live by: Ephesians 4:29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. I thought this might be a good verse for us to mediate on as we approach Thanksgiving. Many of us (me!) will be sharing the holiday with friends and relatives and sometimes we need to watch our tongues. Let’s remember to only say what will build others up and not try to “win” any arguments.
Last week I started a little mini series here on the blog call Style Swap. I have decided to feature a few of my favorite bloggers and choose a recent look of their’s to straight up copy! For my first swap, I featured Jen from Librarian for Life & Style, and you can read it here.
For today’s look, I decided to try and copy a look from Amy at Amy’s Creative Pursuits. This was particularly fun, because I had the pleasure of getting to meet Amy in real life this summer. You can read all about our afternoon together here. When Amy shared this look on her blog a couple of weeks ago, I knew right away that I would try and copy it! I had just purchased a cream colored sweater and had all the other pieces just sitting in my closet – waiting to come together in an outfit.
Here is Amy’s look:
Again I’m featuring another blogger wearing a hat. As I have mentioned before, I love the look on other women, but struggle to feel comfortable in them myself. These style swaps are forcing me (in a good way) to step out of my comfort zone and try wearing hats more often.
Beside her jaunty hat, Amy is styling a cream sweater, dark tan jeans, colorful scarf, burgundy booties and a burgundy tote bag. I decided to use her look as my inspiration. Once again, I didn’t get hung up on the fact that my pieces were not exactly like her’s.
Here is my interpretation:
I’m wearing a light, tan wool hat, cream sweater, burgundy jeans, colorful scarf, and cognac booties and tote style bag.
I actually flip flopped my look from Amy’s. I’m wearing burgundy pants and dark tan booties and bag, Amy wore dark tan pants and burgundy booties and bag!
The photos don’t show it too well, but this scarf actually does have quite a bit of burgundy running through the pattern.
I was really happy with how this outfit came together. The cream sweater is a great launching pad for lots of looks. I decided to replace a cream sweater that I bought at Old Navy a few years ago, but never really liked. It had a tighter band at the hem and I always felt a bit “dumpy” looking in it. This one from JC Penney falls freely. You can see there holes all over the front so I definitely need to wear a camisole underneath. However, I figure that, that actually increases the different ways to wear the sweater. Change the color of the cami, change the look!
Here is the look without the hat:
I wore this to try a new restaurant with my sweet hubby and guess what? I actually wore the hat into the restaurant! I did take it off once we sat down as it was too warm to keep it on inside. But, baby steps!
So did you like this swap? I hope this encourages you to look around for some style inspo this week and swap it for your own!
Have a lovely day my friends!
