Words to live by: 1 Corinthians 2:9 No one has ever imagined what God has prepared for those who love him. Knowing the wonderful and eternal future that awaits us gives us hope and courage to press on in this life, to endure hardships, and to avoid giving in to temptation. This world is not all there is . The best is yet to come. ~NIV Life Application Study Bible
The Mr. and I took a wonderful vacation to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. As I mentioned in my first post about it, we checked into the resort at 12:30am after being up for almost 24 hours. As you can imagine, we plopped into bed exhausted. Now we wanted to sleep until around 7, but as any of you who have traveled cross country by plane know….we were wide awake at 4am!! We decided to just get some coffee and get up. Only problem was, we had signed up for a bike trip and were to leave by 8:30. Friends, I have to confess, the last thing I wanted to do was take an 18 mile bike trip!
I’m so glad I put on my big girl panties and got on with it. It turned out to be one of the highlights of our whole trip!
We biked the Hiawatha Trail. This is a famous former railroad pass that went from Chicago to the Pacific Ocean. Our portion went from Montana to Idaho.
There were 20 of us in our group, plus 3 guides. The guides provided our bikes, lights, and helmets. Since the trail was once a railroad through the mountains, we went through many tunnels and over several trestle bridges. At the very start of the ride, we went through a mile long tunnel! It was pitch dark inside, so it made for a pretty scary first mile. Our bikes were equipped with lights, but you really needed to rely on others bikers lights as well. Since the tunnel went under the mountain, it was also very cold – 40 degrees year round.
We took a few breaks to make sure we had everyone – especially after the tunnels!
Here is our group of fellow Thrivent Financial conference guests, who chose to bike this trail.
At the end of our ride, the van drivers, who are part of guide crew, had prepared a lovely picnic lunch for us. Sorry, no picture of that. We were all too tired and hungry!
This was such a fun day! I’m glad I let my hubby talk me into it 🙂
Have a lovely day my friends!
