Words to live by: Philippians 4: 6-7 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Remember when praying to thank God for the blessings in your life and for answered prayer. Do you want to worry less? Then pray more!!
So I have almost completed 3 months without shopping for clothes or shoes. I thought I would take a few minutes to share what I have learned from this challenge.
I have learned that I really do have plenty of clothes. I could truly complete an entire year without shopping, which I actually thought I might challenge myself to do. However, I have made an executive decision to stick with the original 3 months.
I have found that I can curb the intense desire/need to shop for an occasion (party/event) if I have at least 2 “go to” outfits that I know I like and don’t wear often. If I wear something too often – like to work for instance, I get tired of it much quicker and also the “specialness” of the outfit is lost. For me, this was a pair of newer, black skinny jeans and a couple of nicer blouses. These outfits saved me on more than one occasion.
When I lift my ban, I have a few things that I will intentionally shop for. As I have mentioned before, I have found that I am very tired of my solid color tops. I tend to wear solids and dress them up with either a pretty patterned scarf or a statement necklace. By not just going out and buying, I have had time to figure out what I really want/miss. I will look for printed blouses to start things off!
Through this shopping break, I have needed to back away from reading many of my favorite style blogs because I found that it really led to feelings of discontentment. By doing this, I have learned to focus better on what I like and think is pretty, rather than just following the trend. I hope I can continue with this way of looking at clothes.
Well, this was a wordy post! I hope I didn’t bore you to tears. Sometimes, I just want you all to know what I’m thinking.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch…..( just kidding – there is no ranch!)
Here is an outfit I wore last week when them temps were warm and lovely. And yes, those are my bare legs out for all the world to see!
When the temperatures rise, skirts are my best friends. I just need to be re-introduced to the Sun!
Have a lovely day my friends!
