Alternate post title: “Keeping It Simple”.
The sanctuary in our church is not air-conditioned, so in the summer, they hold the main service which is at 10am downstairs in the air conditioned hall. It’s a bit crowded and the hubby doesn’t care for it so we have been going to the early service which is at 8am. This one is held in the air-conditioned chapel. But like I said, it is at 8am, which show up a lot earlier on a Sunday morning than it does during the work week.
I decided (read: was pressed for time) to wear my trusty striped dress and sandals. Easy, breezy. The sandals have both a black and cognac strap so I like the way they tied in with the stripes in the dress as well as my cognac bag. My jewelry was simple too. hoop earrings and my long turquoise, tassel necklace.
Wow, I can really see (and I suppose if you notice these types of things, you can too!) how bleached out my hair as become! I guess thats what vacations in California, Cape Cod and lolling about in my backyard will do! No worries though. I have a hair appointment on Thursday and my girl Linda will have me all fixed up!
One thing that I love about Summer, is that I have plenty of extra time to read, and friends, I have taken full advantage of it. I thought I would go ahead and give a reviews of some the books I have read this Summer.
I just finished Nobody’s Cuter Than You, by Melanie Shank yesterday.
This is one of the books I had on my Summer Reading List.
It is just sat the tagline suggests, a beautiful story of friendship. The author shares about the many friends that have come, gone and stayed forever in her life.
She does have one particular friend Gulley, that we were introduced to in her two earlier books, Sparkly Green Earrings, and (my favorite) The Antelope in the Living Room.
Gulley and Melanie have been blessed to be friends since college and still live close enough to see one another as often as they like. They also have children close in age to each other, so there kids have grown up together too. My favorite parts are about the hysterical road trips she, Gulley and the kids take together each summer. Some laugh out loud and recognizable moments there!
My blogging friends, Leslie from Once Upon a Time & Happily Ever After, and Katie from The Mishaps and Mayhem of a Solitary Life also read and reviewed this book. You should definitely check them out!
I plan to review more this books this week, and I’d love to share them with you! I hope you will stop bacon Wednesday and Friday.
Words to live by:
Since I’m talking about books and books contain words, I thought I’d share a little about what the Bible says about our words. Proverbs 12:18 Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.
